From 21-31 May, 2013, organized by Wu Promotion, Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing held a large-scale global tour once again. This year, as a part of Peking Opera Festival, Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing toured in the Netherlands, Austria and Italy. It aroused a warm welcome and won a resounding success with its six unique performances in ten days. Two traditional Peking Opera productions The Legend of the White Snake and The Red Maid as well as many galas (At the Crossroads, Presenting a Pearl on Rainbow Bridge, The Goddess of Heaven Scatters Flowers) were interpreted by many excellent performers. After last year’s great success, the Jingju (Peking Opera) Festival made a great contribution once again on the promotion of Chinese quintessence abroad.
On the evening of May 21st, in the Netherlands, the first performance of Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing, at the Lucent Danstheater, won a great success. Hundreds of spectators, intoxicated by their original performance, gave a standing ovation as a salute to the artists. In addition, the Chinese Ambassador to the Netherlands Chen Xu, the Japanese Ambassador Nagamine as well as many officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other diplomatic organizations in the Netherlands all joined the opening ceremony and performances. This European tour has attracted many media both from home and abroad to report on this cultural event, such as China Daily, Beijing Morning Post, Noordhollands Dagblad, Den Haag Centraal. Cultural exchange is of global importance as it has become a bridge for mutual understanding. Or in the words of Mr. Zezhou Wu, founder of Wu Promotion, “culture has the function that combines cultivate and educate people as well as make profit” therefore we should develop the function of cultural exchange. |
