Wu Promotion and Theatertreffen Berlin recently signed a five-year partnership agreement.

To strenthen the relations between China and Germany in the field of theater, Wu Promotion and Theatertreffen Berlin recently signed a five-year partnership agreement. Starting in 2016, Wu Promotion will present each year several selected production of Theatertreffen in China.

Founded in 1964, Theatertreffen Berlin is an annual event organized by Festspiele Berlin and one of the most imporant cultural Festivals in Germany. Together with Avignon Theater Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival, Theatertreffen Berlin, belongs to World’s most leading theater festivals. Teatertreffen presents every year in May the ten most renowned German theater productions of the season, selected by an independent jury among as many as 400 performances.

Per the agreement between Wu Promotion and Theatertreffen, Wu Promotion will exclusively promote the festival in China and present every year 2-3 of its productions in the Greater China area. The productions to be presented in China will be selected by a German-Chinese committee of five experts.

The committee of the first year is:
Dr.Thomas Oberender: Director of Berliner Festspiele
Yvonne Büdenhölzer: Artistic Director of Berlin Theatertreffen
Chen Ping: Cultural counselor of the Chinese embassy in Germany
Prof. Shen Lin: Professor of the China Central Academy of Drama
Qiang Zhaohui: Former diplomat & German experts

After this year’s successfull 52nd edition of Theatertreffen Berlin, wich presented productions from renowned theaters such as Schauspiel Hannover, Burgtheater (Vienna), Maxim Gorki Theater (Berlin), Deutsches Schauspielhaus (Hamburg) and Schauspiel Stuttgart, the committee is currently brainstorming about the productions to be toured in China in 2016.
