China Philharmonic's concert in Berlin opens the German 'China Culture Year' 2012

The China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) successfully held their opening concert for the German 'China Culture Year' at the Berlin Konzerthaus.

The China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) successfully held their opening concert for the German 'China Culture Year' at the Berlin Konzerthaus. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Germany, the German 'China Culture Year' consists of more than 500 different events throughout Germany, including musical, theatre, dance, literature, film, exhibition and dialogue etc. It represents a great opportunity for locals to approach Chinese culture.

Under the baton of its Artistic Director Yu Long, the CPO began the opening concert with Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser – Overture. The Chinese famous violinist Ning Feng performed Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto, a musical piece dealing with a traditional Chinese love story, also referred to as the 'Chinese Romeo and Juliet'. The audience was deeply touched by Ning's impeccable technique and his passionate play. The Symphonic Peking Opera The Drunken Concubine brought another exciting moment to the night. The famous Peking Opera singer Wang Yi fascinated the audience with her mellow voice, exquisite performance and glamorous costume. Finally, during the encore piece Berliner Luft, the concert reached its climax.

After the successful concert in Berlin, the CPO visited Prague, Czech Republic and held a wonderful concert in the prestigious Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall. The concert hall was filled with enthusiastic fans, unwilling to leave long after the performance had ended.
