From May 5th to 16th 2011, Australia's most innovative Jazz ensemble Misinterprotato toured in China. Nearly 10,000 audience members enjoyed their splendid jazz performances.

Misinterprotato was formed in 1999 while the three members were still students at the Queensland Conservatorium. The group's sound is driven by award winning pianist Sean Foran, teamed with John Parker's expansive dynamic range on percussion and Patrick Marchisella's visceral touch on the double bass. The trio has been deemed one of Australia's most influential Jazz ensembles. Being so much more than a traditional jazz trio, this group expands the capacities of the classic piano/bass/drums by combining their fresh attitude with elements of avant-garde in their music. Truly captivating for a variety of audiences, MISINTERPROTATO skillfully blends dense, exciting improvisations and delicate emotions, conjuring up sounds of modern jazz, ambient music, avant-garde rock, free improvisation and contemporary classical music.

In 2010, the trio was chosen to represent Australia as its cultural ambassador and was showcased at the Shanghai Expo. A year later, they were invited to join 2010-2011 Australian Culture Year Celebration Events and toured in China. They gave the first performance in Changsha and the concert was hosted by the renowned Bilingual Emcee, Mr. Deng Zinan from HuNan TV World.

Apart from original compositions, Misinterprotato also cooperated with Chinese traditional folk Music artists, Ms.Cai Xia and Ms. Li Jing and played several Chinese songs. The cooperation came out to be a perfect match that mixed the beauty of Jazz and the cream of Chinese traditional folk music together. After the show, the profound critic Mr.Mick in held a related lecture at the Hunan Grand Theatre.

The trio then came to Beijing and held recitals at Midi Conservatory School and Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. The three musicians happily communicated with passionate students after the show. They expressed the appreciation for the systematic and well organized Jazz education .The trio was amazed by the level that the students have achieved in their jazz education. Besides the two schools, Misinterprotato also performed at The One Club in Beijing and other venues.

The tour is a part of the celebratory events of Australian Culture Year. With the title"Imagine Australia," the events aim to strengthen the friendship between China and Australia, so as to enhance mutual appreciation between the two countries. For Australia, this is also the largest promotion activity ever held in China.
