In collaboration with Wu Promotion and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Amstel Saxophone Quartet from the Netherlands held a workshop as part of the 10th Music Festival of the Central Conservatory of Music on November 23rd. Students were given an opportunity to get up close and personal with the quartet.Music Artistic Director from the Central Conservatory of Music, Han Xiaoming and the renowned saxophonist and music professor, Li Manlong were both guests at the The Music Festival. The Amstel Quartet have been performing together for 10 years, during which they have established an international reputation in the chamber music field and claim to still be in search of their own style and versatile ability. The dynamic ensemble treated attendants to Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue, Maurice Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte and works by Bach. Two student saxophone quartets were invited to perform at the workshop and in return received claims and professional advice from the Amstel Quartet. The Quartet’s advice on tuning and use of dynamics are of great benefit to both the ensembles and the watching saxophone students. The workshop was well received and ended with great success.
