DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN box office has officially opened!
Der Ring des Nibelungen

Box office of The Ring has finally officially opened.  Special offer for purchases per ticket set applicable during the first week of opening (till 27th April).

Cologne Opera’s Shanghai premiere of two cycles of The Ring of the Nibelung (Der Ring des Nibelungen) from 16th September has opened the box office officially on 20th April.  It was met with immense support from anticipated audiences which has exceeded the expectation of the presenters.  As the most significant cultural event during Shanghai Expo, Der Ring des Nibelungen aroused strong interest and attentions from both Chinese and foreign audiences.

The full complete opera will include the whole four opulent Das Rheingold (The Rhinegold), Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), Siegfried and Götterdämmerung (The Twilight of the Gods), lasting for a total of 15 hours, spreading across 4 evenings.  Cologne Opera will bring over 300 artists and over 30 containers directly from Germany, breaking all the previous records in performances in Shanghai to perform two complete cycles for the very first time.   This circumstance alone casts a light upon the special significance of cultural exchange within the theatre and opera scene in Asia.

Wu Promotion has worked for more than two years to bring the Cologne Ring to Shanghai.  On the occasion of Expo, Cologne Opera received strong support from City of Cologne.  Also thanks to the cooperation from local partners Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai City Dance and Xin Min Group, 2010 finally sees the realisation of the largest cultural event at Expo 2010 and also the largest opera ever staged in China.  Cologne Opera will perform two complete cycles of the Ring at the Shanghai Grand Theatre: 1st cycle from 16th – 19th September with the 2nd cycle from 21st- 24th September.

Officially invited by the Expo Committee, the Ring will debut in Shanghai with its complete cycle of the Ring during the busy time of the Expo with visitors travelling from worldwide.  Since reservation of  tickets began in early April, the Shanghai Grand Theatre has already received phone calls from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Taiwan and abroad, many have stated that the Ring is not only the largest cultural event at the Expo this year, it is also a culture phenomenon itself and a rare opportunity for one to enjoy a complete cycle of Wagner’s Ring.

Shown by statistic so far, since the Cologne Opera Press Conference, the Shanghai Grand Theatre has already received up to 20% reservation to the total ticket sales which is extremely rare for performances to receive such support in the genre of classical music.  Moreover, as promised to the public, the presenters will continue to offer 20% off each set of tickets (each set has 4 tickets and 1 for each night) in the first week of official box office opening.
