On June 16th, chairman Daniel Froschauer, general manager Michael Bladerer, and treasurer Bernhard Hedenborg renewed the exclusive touring partnership for Greater China from 2028 to 2032 along with President Jiatong Wu----the renewal marked the fifteen-year long exclusive partnership. The successful collaboration started from 2014, and it was signed by Mr. Clemens Hellsberg, former President of the Vienna Philharmonic, and Dieter Flury, former General Manager of the orchestra, and President Wu. On 2 March 2021, Mr. Daniel Froschauer, Michael Bladerer, and former Treasurer Bernhard Naoki Hedenborg signed an extension of their five-year exclusive touring partnership in Greater China Area from 2022 to 2027 along with President Wu. The signing in the year of the 50th anniversary of Austria-China relations was especially meaningful. Another extension in 2026 not only presents mutual trust but also proves Wu Promotion’s expertise in cultural exchange. The friendship over ten years marks the new chapter for their international collaboration, building the cultural bridge between China and Austria.
On June 12th, Vienna Philharmonic held the annual general meeting: violinist Daniel Froschauer was reelected chairman for a fourth term of three years. Double-bassist Michael Bladerer was re-elected as Managing Director and cellist Bernhard Hedenborg as Treasurer. Principal flute Karl-Heinz Schütz joins the management team as Vice Chairman. The new management team will not only make Wiener Philharmoniker’s brand more globalized but also mark the new cycle for the orchestra’s exclusive collaboration with Wu Promotion! In over ten years, the worldwide classical orchestra has been performing on Chinese stages through Wu Promotion’s expertise in operation, bringing pure sounds of classical music to millions of Chinese audiences. Retrospecting long-term collaborations, Wiener Philharmoniker has brought Chinese audiences unforgettable concerts since signing exclusive partnership with Wu Promotion in 2014. First Five Years since 20172017-2019 In Oct 2017, Wiener Philharmoniker, conducted by renowned conductor Andris Nelsons, brought the first large-scale China tour, performing 10 bravo concerts at Shenzhen Concert Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts, and Centro Cultural de Macau. Since then, Wiener Philharmoniker had been holding large scaled China tour for three years, collaborating with top conductors Franz Welser-Möst, Christian Thielemann, Andrés Orozco-Estrada and superstar pianists Lang Lang and Yuja Wang. The artists have brought 24 concerts and 10 arts events within three years. The events have been remarkable for international cultural exchange.
2020-2023 In November 2020, Wiener Philharmoniker held Japan tour in Kitakyushu, Osaka, Kawasaki, Tokyo, bringing audiences 7 concerts. In 2021, Wiener Symphoniker held concerts in Egypt along with Wu Promotion, and it was Wiener Symphoniker’s second visit to Egypt since the first one in 1950. In Oct 2022, conductor Franz Welser-Möst and the orchestra held tours in Hong Kong, Taipei, and Kaohsiung. In 2023, conductor Tugan Sokhiev and pianist Lang Lang performed 3 concerts in Taipei and Kaohsiung, spending unforgettable moments with more than 3000 audiences.
2024–2025 From Oct 27th to Nov 6th in 2024, Wiener Philharmoniker was back for large scale China tour! It was conducted by Andris Nelsons and pianist Yefim Bronfman was the soloist. The musicians spent unforgettable musical moments with around 12,000 audiences in 8 concerts held in Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an and Guangzhou. From Nov 21st to 27th in 2025, conductor Christian Thielemann and the orchestra presented 4 concerts in Shanghai and Beijing, performing classic German repertoires from the Romantic Era.
Wiener Philharmonier will be back for another China tour from Oct 18th to 24th! Sokhiev will be back with piano soloist Lang Lang, bringing Classical and Romantic classics!
