Co-promoted by Wu Promotion and Berlin Theatre Festival, organized by the Tianjin Grand Theatre, the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre, and the Changzhou Grand Theatre, the 3rd "Theatertreffen in China" ended with great success in July 2018 with the support of Goethe-Institut China and Volkswagen China. Wu Promotion is sincerely grateful to all our partners for their trust and support. At the same time, we wish to express our deepest gratitude to the five judges of “Theatertreffen in China”: Dr. Thomas Oberender, Managing Director of Berliner Festspiele; Chen Ping, Counselor for Culture Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Germany; Dr. Clemens Treter, Director of the Goethe-Institut China; Meng Jinghui, Theatre Director; Yvonne Büdenhölzer, Artistic Director of Theatertreffen.

After the success of der die mann and Tripping Stones State Theater in 2017, the jury selected one distinctive drama for the Chinese audiences: Five Easy Pieces, directed by Milo Rau. This China tour was the first time that "Easy Five Pieces" was performed in China, and it was the curtain call for the first group of young actors in the show. On July 3 and 4, the first performances were premiered at the Tianjin Grand Theatre, and at the Beijing Tianqiao Art Center the production was performed for the 100th and the 101st time on July 7th and 8th. The tour came to its end at the Changzhou Grand Theatre; the six performances gathered nearly 3,000 spectators.

This award-winning drama has undoubtedly triggered a heated discussion and drawn a lot of attention among Chinese theatre practitioners and audiences. 56 mainstream cultural media have published more than 100 reports. The Weibo topic aboutthe 3rd"Theatertreffen in China"has gained 380,000 points of heat, reaching more than 100,000 people.

Beijing Ribao commented: “Children can naturally bring out the discussion on the origin issues of acting and how to arouse the audience's emotion between performance and non-performance. Based on this, the director vested the play with a complex structure, allowing the theatre not only to record history and reality, but also to give us the opportunity to discuss the drama art itself.” Journalist Wang Ren pointed that “After the performance, I realized that children are much more courageous and intelligent than we are. If we can't give them a world without darkness, without victimization, even sometimes we can't tolerate the cruelty and suffering ourselves, is there something that we should learn with children? The drama provides a brave and intelligent perspective.”

In addition to the wonderful repertoire performances, the 3rd "Theatertreffen in China" also prepared 15 different types of outreach activities for audiences, to give a more comprehensive presentation of the current state, activity and diversity of the development of theatrical arts in the world, which have attracted over 2,000 audiences.
