In April 2016, 22 dancers from the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève brought A Midsummer Night's Dream—a contemporary ballet adapted from a Shakespeare’s comedy of the same title—to Chinese audiences in Kaohsiung, Shanghai and Beijing.

As a cultural ambassador between China and Switzerland, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève has been visiting China since the 1980s, initially cooperating with Wu Promotion in autumn 2013 with contemporary style of ballet Giselle.

The tour in April saw the premiere of A Midsummer Night's Dream in Asia. As the flagship program of Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival 2016, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève gave two performances in Kaohsiung Cultural Center on April 16 and 17. During the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the performances had an even greater presence.
