The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra performed in the Great Hall of the People

On December 31st, Wu Promotion brought internationally renowned conductor Jonathan Nott and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra to The 2014 Beijing New Year Concert, organized by the Beijing Artists Management Corp., Ltd. at the Great Hall of the People. The orchestra’s classical repertoire, including Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, the “Meistersinger overture” and other pieces, drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra opened its performance with the Chinese piece Red Flag Ode. While many conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Vassily Sinaisky, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and Ivan Fischer, have led performances of this piece before, Jonathan Nott, in his first performance of Red Flag Ode still left the audience excited by his own personal interpretation.

In the process of preparing for this performance, Nott wanted to have just the perfect arrangement for this particular night and prepared six versions of the song, adding his own interpretations to this Chinese classic. He believes that this is a wonderful opportunity to let him join the Chinese audience in joyfully celebrating the New Year. He ended the night with a beautiful performance of Dvorak Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" to enthusiastic applause from the audience.

After the concert, Wu Promotion’s general manager Mr. Jiatong Wu invited the orchestra, Haijun Zhang, the general manager of the Beijing Artists Management Corp., Ltd, and also Wu Promotion’s staff to celebrate the New Year at the InterContinental Beijing Financial Street. For the artists of The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, this first New Year in China, was an evening filled with special meaning and great conversation.
