From 27th December, 2010 to 9th January, 2011, the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra gave an extensive New Year tour throughout China, hitting the concert halls in Laiwu, Zhongshan, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Xian and Tangshan. Led by renowned trombone virtuoso and conductor Christian Lindberg , the young orchestra left China with a series of sought-after performances. In Guangzhou, the orchestra celebrated the New Year with the opening piece Spring Festival Overture. The concert’s programme included pieces from Peer Gynt, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, followed by Strauss’ acclaimed Overture to Fledermaus, Pizzicato polka and Aquarellen Waltzer. Mozart’s Horn Concerto and the ever popular Radetzky March were also received with delight. As a prominent trombonist, Christian Lindberg performed Concertino for Trombone and Orchestra by Ole Olsen, another famous composer from Sweden. The concert closed with the catchy tune of Jasmine Flower as an encore. This was the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra’s first tour to China. During their stay, musicians experienced China at first-hand by visiting the Terracotta Army of Qin Dynasty, climbing the Great Wall and tasting Chinese delicacies. Wu Promotion has already invited the orchestra for a come back tour in 2012 and 2013. For more information on the orchestra's China Tour, please enjoy the short video posted below.
