The Mariinsky Theatre presented in China from November 20 to December 7 a colorful festival of sixteen performances with the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Opera and the Ballet Company featuring the annual arts spectacle to the Chinese audiences.

The Mariinsky Orchestra, Opera, and the Choir kicked off the under the baton of Valery Gergiev, a vast variety of works by Berlioz, Shostakovich, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Rimsky-Korsakov, Saint-Saëns, Ravel, Mussorgsky, etc., were presented at Guangdong Xinghai Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Jiangsu Grand Theatre, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts, winning the greatest ovations from the audiences. Special mention to Parsifal, Wagner’s last opera, as the only complete opera production presented during the tour.

The Mariinsky Ballet program included Alexander Gorsky’s Don Quixote (a revival of the original choreography of Marius Petipa), Les Sylphides, Firebird, and Schéhéazade performed at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and Jiangsu Grand Theatre.

This tour marked the fourth Mariinsky Festival in China. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of our theatre partners for the generous support. New surprises will come in 2020!
