Cathal Breslin has been praised as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation with critical acclaimsuch as "superb intensity and passion" (Cleveland Plain Dealer) and "noble poetry" (The Independent,London). Concerto performances have been with the Turin Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestraof Ireland, BBC Ulster Orchestra, Camerata Ireland and RTE Concert Orchestra. Solo recitals in Asia havevisited China, Korea, Japan, U.S.A., and in Europe throughout Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, Austria,Bulgaria, Poland, Portugal, U.K. and Ireland. Highlights have included two Carnegie Hall recitals and arecital in Wigmore Hall.

Other than Bronze Medal at the “Viotti” in Vercelli/Milan, he had been awarded top prizes in “Carlet” inValencia, “Grand Konzerteum” in Athens, and “Iowa” in the U.S. He has broadcast regularly for BBC Radio3, RTE and Radio Ulster, RTVE Spain. His Mozart and Takemitsu recordings for the European BroadcastingUnion network have been broadcasted in over 30 countries.

Cathal greatly appreciates the kind financialsupport throughout his career from the Arts Council of N. Ireland, BBC, Culture Ireland, Diageo Ireland,Fulbright Ireland, and the Bank of Ireland. In 2008 Cathal and his wife, American flutist Sabrina Hu, becameFounding Artistic Directors of the Walled City Music Festival and Concert Series in Derry, Northern Ireland.Cathal is also passionate about teaching and pedagogy. Before joining University of Memphis,Tennessee, he had held faculty positions at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg University ofPennsylvania, the National University of Ireland in Maynooth, and Queen’s University in Belfast, N. Ireland.
