Tim Wintersohl, flute The Amsterdam Wind Quintet is an ensemble with a strong, unique personality. Initiated in 2006 they have been given chamber music concerts throughout The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The five talented and ambitious musicians met during studies in Amsterdam. It became rapidly clear that this young ensemble was able to create high quality music, with surprising programs and refreshing and unconventional performances. Every year the five windplayers create new programs with quintet, trio and quartet pieces. The woodwind quintet creates concerts for people with an interest in classical music as well as people who are not yet that familiar with the classical music scene. Concerts for children and students are very important for the ensemble. The field activity is expanded by working with singers, writers and theatre directors. The Amsterdam Wind Quintet performed in theaters, concert halls but also at several (live) radio broadcasts, e.g. the National Classical Music radiostation. Performances in Holland’s major concert halls are already in the brief history of the ensemble. They played several times in the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, De Doelen in Rotterdam and the Lux Theatre in Nijmegen. International festivals such as the Orlando Festival, Festival Classique and Gelderse Music Summer also belong to the list of concerts of the quintet. Other highlights are the performance for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 2007, world premieres of pieces by the composers Henry Kelder, Johan de Wit and Joke van Dal, and playing a concert for the Rabobank, one of the most prominent banks of Holland. The five outstanding musicians dedicate a lot of passion and energy to the quintet and create strong and unique quality concerts with a classical base and contemporary influences. In 2013-2014 the Amsterdam Wind Quintet recorded three cd’s including world premieres of James Kazik and Johan de Wit. Review "The problem with an ensemble of this kind is often the blending of the sound. The members of this Quintet made the instruments sound as if they were one, with a lot of colorful nuances. Five magnificent musicians! A long lasting applause was the reward at the end of this performance." - StichtingKamermuziekOudAvereest
