About The Zodiac Trio
Featured in the London-based international MUSO magazine as one of the leading chamber groups of its generation, the Zodiac Trio has been praised by critics for their “truly exceptional talent” (Nice-Matin, France) and “remarkable musicality of rare intensity” (La Tribune), as well as being declared as “excellent, talented and committed” by the New York Concert Review and “awe-inspiring” (NYC.com, New York).

The young clarinet-violin-piano ensemble has been welcomed on many leading stages throughout the US, Europe and Japan. Representing three different nations – Japan, Russia and France – the Zodiac Trio met in New York in 2005. Since its formation, The Zodiac Trio has been awarded prizes at a number of national and international competitions such as the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition, FNAPEC Ensemble Competition (Paris), International Chamber Music Competition of Duchi D’Aqcuaviva (Italy), Val Tidone International Music Competition (Italy), the Cziffra Foundation (France), Joyce Dutka Foundation for the Arts (New York), International Peninsula Young Artist Festival in California and the ProMusica Ensemble Competition (France), among others. The young ensemble has also received a Recording Grant and Commission Grant from Co-Op press, and is laureate of the 6th International Osaka Chamber Music Competition in Japan.

Individually and collectively, they have performed throughout the United States, South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, China and Japan.

Their debut commercial recording, that received nation-wide airplay as well as critical acclaim, included two works written for the ensemble. Currently the Zodiac Trio has a number of projects in the works with up-and-coming composers both in the United States and France, bridging the two countries and fueling an exciting cultural exchange. Aside from trios, the young ensembles often offer sonatas and solo works to bring a large variety to its audiences in the scope of a single concert.

In 2007, the Zodiac Trio made Paris their headquarters, where they are on the artist roster of the Cziffra Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting Europe’s top young artists. The young ensemble also enjoys support from Culture France, where they have been selected to receive sponsorship to represent France at international competitions.

The Zodiac Trio “A musicality of rare intensity...”
- La Tribune, France

“Remarkable!... The audience was held captive by the beauty of the performance from the moment the first note rang until the last note slowly dissolved… They were rewarded with a well-deserved standing ovation. A performance of international value!”
– St. Jeannette Association

“…all excellent, talented and committed… Pianist Riko Higuma played [Franz Liszt’s Tarantella from “Venizia e Napoli”] brilliantly and was a sensitive partner in the ensembles… Clarinetist Kliment Krylovskiy played with easy facility, a vibrant, variable tone, and radiated lots of expressiveness and exuberance. Violinist Vanessa Mollard displayed a fine technique and a lovely tone… The performances were serious and conscientious as well as involved and spontaneous. Throughout, the musicians projected infectious enjoyment of the music and their collaboration, and a truly remarkable ability to feel at home in national idioms surely far removed from their own background and experience. The audience responded with unbridled enthusiasm.”
– Edith Eisler, New York Concert Review

“Two unforgettable concerts by the Zodiac Trio! Truly exceptional and sublime talent... Two nights were hardly enough to present the trio's vast repertoire that stretched from Baroque to Romantic and beyond. The prestigious level of the performances radiated the undeniable talent of the trio and foreshadowed their great success in the future.”
- Nice-Matin

“I have great personal admiration for the sensitivity and intelligence expressed in their interpretations. Their artistic quality and exceptional spirit makes the Zodiac Trio deserving of being placed in the top ranks in the musical world.”
- Luc-Marie Aguera, violinist of the Ysaÿe Quartet

“I first heard this young trio on WQXR a few month ago, and was tremendously impressed with their sound and energy, which came across quite clearly in their broadcast. Based on their segment on WQXR, I then went to their performance at Merkin Hall. The concert was very strong in content, concept and execution, and the audience response was extremely enthusiastic!”
– Tobias Tumarkin, Vice President, Columbia Artists Management LLC

“…violinist Vanessa Mollard and clarinetist Kliment Krylovskiy respond to pianist Riko Higuma’s thoughtful opening and bring the theme to soulful life then toss off the technical challenges with ease and style, responding to the frequent tempo shifts in a convincing way, leaving room for the piano’s turn at the haunting tune…The musicians were engagingly and totally involved…Krylovskiy was certainly up to the
demands of the frequent slides and bends… producing a marvelously-crafted legato…Mollard’s journey into the stratosphere was especially fine to which Krylovskiy responded with his own marvelously sculpted line. Then all combined with an oneness of purpose that was compelling to the ear and a tender farewell.”
– James Wegg Review

“ Assured and confident, the musicians took their seats and from the first few notes, the high level of their playing was self-evident. Flawless technique and thoughtful and masterful phrasing projected a commanding performance. The klezmeresque Trio by Paul Schoenfield was brilliantly executed by clarinetist Kliment Krylovskiy who made his instrument cry, yelp, wail and laugh. Violinist Vanessa Mollard exemplified passionate playing and a polished technique while pianist Riko Higuma was both a sensitive partner and a dazzling soloist. A truly polished and awe-inspiring performance.”
