Giovanni Allevi

Giovanni Allevi is a pianist, composer and conductor who graduated with top marks in piano and composition. He also holds a cum laude degree in Philosophy (he wrote his dissertation on “The Void in Contemporary Physics”) but still says, “Through my music I see the world with the eyes of a child”. On stage he wears jeans and tennis shoes, not because he seeks to change the usual appearance of the classical musician but because he wants to feel completely himself as all he cares about is his music, the rest is optional.

Thus, Allevi became a social phenomenon, the enfant terrible who shocked the musical Academia with his talent and charisma. He became a social phenomenon and elbowed his way into the collective imagination of the new generations, who pack the concert halls and with whom he has a special relationship, which he defines “mysterious”.

Amongst his many successful concerts and tours are his US tour opening concert at the New York Carnegie Hall and the concert at the Arena di Verona in September 2009, an historical event defined as the “Woodstock of contemporary classical music”; in this concert Giovanni conducted his symphonic music, played by the “All Stars Orchestra” (90 musicians chosen from the world's best musical ensembles) in front of 12,000 people. This concert was also released in a special CD/DVD edition by Sony Music.

However, Allevi never abandoned his love for the piano. In fact, on March 19th he began a new international “Piano Solo” tour with concerts in UK (London`s Queen Elizabeth Hall), Korea, Georgia, China (Shanghai, in occasion of Expo 2010), Thailand, Japan and many cities in Italy.

“Piano Solo Tour 2010” predates a new release in which Giovanni Allevi will return to the solo piano in his most intimate and personal dimension.

Press Reviews:

giovanni-allevi

"He's a classical musician but thanks to his age and cultural background is able to accept all the sounds    that accompany our way of living... There is a kind of impulsiveness and passion in his way of being an artist, there's a willfulness and rebelliousness, a love for the piano's past and the desire to overturn traditions by opening up new paths."

- Corriere della Sera

"Giovanni Allevi, a virtuoso of the keyboard somewhere between classical, pop and jazz. The pianist of the infinite."

- Il Tempo

"Allevi, the pianist that cannot be categorised."

- La Repubblica

"The idea of "No Concept" best represents his music, which shies away from standard Beethoven or Mozart repertoire and creates a style full of inspiration and improvisation. His modern and free spirit has drawn a new audience from rock music lovers...The concert hall was filled."
