From March 28 to April 5, the Wiener Symphoniker under the baton of newly appointed Chief Conductor Petr Popelka, will embark on a nine-day music and cultural exchange tour. The Wiener Symphoniker is offering a gift of five extraordinary performances to the audiences of the NCPA, continuing the classical music legacy in Beijing!
This tour marks the 125th anniversary of the Wiener Symphoniker and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss Jr. The orchestra will bring iconic masterpieces such as Wagner’s Die Walküre and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 to Beijing, recreating the “Goldener Saal Wiener Musikvereins” sound and showcasing the pinnacle of symphonic art. As a symbol of Vienna, the classical music capital, the Wiener Symphoniker has been dedicated to shaping the unique sound of Vienna since its founding in 1900. The orchestra was the first to perform Beethoven’s complete symphonies in the Austrian capital and remains a top interpreter of German-Austrian music, facing the challenges of the 20th century with confidence and vision. This Beijing visit is not just a musical feast but also a cultural exchange journey, with the orchestra visiting Beijing landmarks and universities, connecting “Springtime from Vienna”.
Petr Popelka is one of the most beloved and sought-after conductors of today. He is the current Chief Conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker and also serves as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. During this tour, he will present his conducting debut in China. |
