The start of 2018 was celebrated by the 3rd cooperation between Wu Promotion and the great choreographer Boris Eifman along with his acclaimed company. The Eifman Ballet’s choreography Beyond Sin took place from 5thJan-7thJan under the invitation of Tianqiao Theatre in Beijing, being part of the Third International Ballet Season. It is the first time this piece has ever been presented in China.

Based on the novel The Brothers Karamazov of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Beyond Sin is an attempt to study the origins of the moral catastrophe of the Karamazovs and the nature of human depravity and spiritual salvation. Mr. Eifman once said “The Brothers Karamazov was the epitome of Dostoevsky’s creative development, the acme of the philosophical investigation” With his new concept of ballet, the deepness of this literary masterpiece is marvelously interpreted with an innovative dance vocabulary giving a direct explanation to psychological ballet.

Dancers fully represent the integration of classical and modern ballet, their intensive and explosive movements, not only shocked every audience but also led them to reach the climax by the emotional expressions executed by the performers. “Eifman's artistic expression is beyond our imagination. The dancers had performed this difficult story marvelously with their bodies. The audience was mightily moved, that is the power of art.” said Jingwei Liu, the general manager of Tianqiao Theatre. Several Chinese celebrities from the arts scene also praised the performances.

Within this China tour, Mr. Boris Eifman was also invited to offer a workshop at the Beijing Dance Academy and he sincerely expressed his wish for a bright future in the development of the Chinese ballet.
